If you are looking for reviews and motivation to join this opportunity, you will easily find lots ofarticles about the most hackneyed youth project in the world.
It seems that every spot will encourage you to take part to the weirdest experience of your life, something that you must try to be socially accepted and so forth.
but… have you ever heard about 10 reasons why you should NEVER do this exchange?
After 2 Erasmus (and 2 more planned) I strictly believe to be the person you need to answer to the most asked questions and figure out the 10 worst things you may bring back from an Erasmus.
YOU WILL WASTE YOUR TIME
This is absolutely the first question someone who never did an Erasmus (and never will) asks “Did you waste your time? How many exams did you sit?”
I just wanna reply:
yes. I’ve lost tons and tons of time. You can’t imagine how many days I’ve spent making friends, seeing new places, discovering new cultures and of course planning weekends in front of my beer.
Pay attention to this point because once you taste living abroad you will be so upset for the time wasted at home!
YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FRIENDS…AND SOMETIMES YOUR LOVE
I’m sorry to be frank but… living abroad is the easiest way to discover who is really interested in you. You will understand that the new Michael Kors bag of your friend is not so hot as it used to be for you, neither the whinings of your (ex) boyfriend about Juventus.
YOU WILL CRY
Especially on the third week, because you realise how far from home you are and… on the last week, because you don’t want to come back.
YOU WILL BE BROKEN
Despite I’ve made my Erasmus in not-so-expensive places, I’ve spent every single euro in food, train tickets and… tattoos 😛
YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MEMORY
Wait! You are surely thinking about hangovers and that time you lost your dignity after bottles and bottles of wine.
Of course not.
I mean that your mind will be so overwhelmed by new landscapes, memories, new names and new words of different languages that it must sacrifice something… such as gossip from your city, exams and maybe… the bancomat code.
YOU WILL STOP BEING SATISFIED…OR YOU WILL BE SATISFIED MORE EASILY
It looks like a contradiction but… you will discover your friend’s stories about last night at the disco won’t satisfy you as used to do but you will be happy just laying of the beach in front of a sunset with the sound of waves
NOBODY WILL RECOGNISE YOU
Don’t worry, you won’t change you nature.
Simply, you will start feeling free to express your feelings and you won’t care about others opinion too much
YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT
As you know food experiences have their importance 😉
YOU WON’T STOP TALKING
Leave behind your shyness to express how enthusiastic you are!
And the best thing is that you can do that in different languages now.
YOU WILL BE INFECTED
By a terrible disease called desire to live!
You will catch the importance of discovering the world and you will have more often the impression to lose your time on books studying theories made by someone also… now you want to do something new by yourself! Maybe helping others too.
And last… YOU WILL BE ALWAYS HUNGRY
Of experiences, of living and discovering… and remember that happy people are always hungry!
You can find the Italian version here 🙂
